10-8 rounds
i know shamrock got a point taken away but that first round was easily 10-8, it rare to see a fight that lop-sided, the cung le fight could of aslo had some 10-8 rounds, i was just wondering what were some other 10-8 rounds that have happened lately

if gonzaga didn't KO Cro Cop, i'd argue that as a 10-8 round, the first round in Couture/Sylvia, there's been more but its hard to think of them off hand. i remember seeing fights recently and saying "that could be a 10-8 round" but don't recall who.

Not real recent, but I thought Tito/Forrest rd. 1 was a 10-8 round!

To me, a 10-8 round is a round in which the other fighter has been completely dominated, but hasn't been stopped. The guy who's losing has bee knocked down perhaps more than once, nearly pounded out or subbed, on the ground, perhaps even had the fight halted to check a bad cut or something. Its hard to define in MMA; in boxing, a 10-8 round is scored for whomever scores the knockdown, even if the guy who got knocked down was otherwise winning the round. In MMA, knockdowns don't mean all that much, you can get knocked down and still easily win the same round. For me, Tito/Forrest round 1 was only a 10-9 round because Forrest was able to mount a bit of a comeback at the end of the round and asides from the early GnPing, he was beginning to defend himself better in the round. For that to have been a 10-8 round, I think Tito would have had to have been able to continously keep pounding on him.
The thing is, most rounds that could be 10-8 rounds usually end up getting stopped in that round. The first round of GSP/Hieron could have easily been a 10-8 round if Hieron had managed to hang on and survive the round. So really, by my standards anyway, you have to completely shut down and dominate and nearly finish the other guy in order to get a 10-8 round.

I agree that most "10-8" rounds usually end in that round...
Taking it back a couple years, I think Terry Martin had a 10-8 round against James Irvin before Irvin hit him with the famous flying knee at UFC 54.
Same event, UFC 54, GSP would have had a 10-8 round on Frank Trigg if it didn't end early.
Also see the David Terrell, Evan Tanner fight from 2005...Tanner dominated before the TKO, probably 10-8.
Even though the last two I mentioned ended in the first round, I included them because they didnt end until late in Round 1, so I thought they gave a glimpse of what a 10-8 round looks like. I know there are a ton of other dominating first round performances, but those I thought were extended enough to include.

the first round of baroni shamrock wasnt a 10-8. Id say 9-9 if anything. Baroni had like 3 takedowns in the fight

Probably the best known and first one that comes to mind was Rich Ace's full 5-round drubbing of David Loiseau on March 4, 2006, UFC 58.... Franklin completely dominated The Crow for 25 minutes (with a broken hand through more than half of it!) en route to a unanimous decision with the 3 judges giving him 42, 42, and 43 points, meaning there were plenty of 10-8 rounds.

I agree with Howie about the Shamrock/Baroni fight...I think Baroni's takedowns kept the round even.
