Diego has better technique and probably would have done just as well in NCAA if that is what he'd done instead of going straight into MMA from highschool.
You can not compare High School accomplishments to College accomplishtments. Here is an example:

My high school wrestling coach was a 3x state champion, High School All-American. He even beat the number 1 ranked high school wrestler in his wieght class before he entered his freshmmen year at Penn State. How many times did he place at the NCAA tourny... once his senior year. He took 7th. In the NCAAs everyone knows takedowns, takedown defense, and how to mat wrestle. Everyone is strong, eveyrone is fast, and everyone has great cardio. The same can not be said for high school wrestling.

More recently, I saw this kid who was a High School National Champion place 5th at Divison 3 NCAAs. Divison 3, not even D1.

So I hope this gives you some idea what I am talking about. Just because Sanchez can take people down in MMA and was a high school state champ, does not mean he would do as well as Hughes in D1. Acctually, I highly doubt he would come close. Like said, Diego could not even takedown Alessio or Riggs and you expect him to outwrestle Hughes....????
