I'll reiterate again and nobody addressed what I said, as soon as a fighter that emerged that could stop his takedowns and was an above average striker Matt Hughes couldn't handle him, that man being of course GSP.
This is the future of MMA guys like GSP, thats gonna be the standard in 5 to 10 years.
To me the greatest would be a fighter who dominated and won most of his challenges he faced and beat every type of challenge he could.
Hughes can't beat or even come close to beating somebody who could stop his strength.
To me he is the 2nd greatest WW of all time.

Athletes bodies breakdown over the years, it comes with the territory. You can't say GSP will go down as a greater welterweight than Hughes because of Hughes being beaten at the end of his career. GSP is at the peak of his prime while Hughes is beaten down and worn out. Remember Hughes and GSP did fight when both guys were younger and that isn't fair to compare for GSP because he was green and Hughes was in his prime.
Comparing a young stud like GSP to the aged and battle worn Hughes is like comparing a Wizards era Michael Jordan to the young guys he played against in his latter days and saying, man these guys are schooling Jordan, they are greater than him. It's not the same thing as guys being in their prime fighting it out for glory. Lebron James and Jordan could play a game of 1 on 1 today and James would smoke Jordan. That doesn't make James greater than Jordan. You have to step back and look at both guys at the end of their career and compare them. Let GSP defend that belt several times before you try annointing him the greatest WW of all time. How many defenses and how many times did Hughes win it.
