The title is a bit misleading. Before I read the article I figured Matt was hoping Serra would win, so he'd have a better shot at regaining the belt. But he was rooting for Serra to rebound so he could just take more punishment.



I'm going to be the first to come out and say it:

Matt Serra threw that fight. He could have taken GSP at any point, but he chose not to.

Why?

Because he wants to fight Hughes.

He knew if he won, he's locked into fighting Fitch, and he wants to beat Hughes sooner, rather than later. He knows once he beats Hughes like an unhousetrained puppy, that he can regain the title whenever he wants, but he wants the opportunity to lay a smack on Hughes.

I'm telling you...this is truth.

edit: That's also not his real voice/accent. It's like Madonna and Britney Spears...he chooses to talk that way because it makes him sound cool.
