FRANK SHAMROCK AND TITO ORTIZ TALKING REMATCH?
In his latest "MMA Experts Blog", Dave Meltzer reports that Frank Shamrock has reached out to Tito Ortiz about a potential fight.

Shamrock talked with Tito Ortiz, whose UFC contract ends after his May 24 fight, about having a rematch in late 2009 as the ten year anniversary of their original match.
|
The two originally squared off at UFC 22: Only One Can Be Champion, an event held on September 24, 1999 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Shamrock won the contest via submission due to strikes at 4:48 of the fourth round. Many MMA fans considered the fight a turning point in American MMA as it was a fierce battle of attrition that saw Shamrock display his full arsenal of skills. At the bout's conclusion, Shamrock announced his retirement, and he went on to fight only twice in the next six years.
The match was also notable as being the last main event fight ever released on home video by Semaphore Entertainment Group, before what many refer to the "dark ages" of the UFC, which up until UFC 30 and the purchase of the promotion by Zuffa saw no releases in home video or DVD format.
Ortiz is scheduled to fight next versus Lyoto Machida on the main card of the UFC 84: "Ill Will" pay per view. Shamrock will meet San Shou Sensation Cung Le in a battle for San Jose bragging rights March 29th at "Strikeforce/EliteXC: Shamrock vs. Le", which will be aired on Showtime in the USA and The Fight Network in Canada.
