I dissagree because Herring was never going to be a title contender with Cro Cop in the UFC so there was no "direction" (if you will) in the first place.
I think they hyped him in the first fight which he had a torn MCL in and he put on a poor performance, during which Rogan basically buried him like a douchebag by putting him on blast on national television and the fight was heavily booed. The fight with Imes was setup in Herring's favor because Imes is inexperienced. If they thought what they saw against O'Briend was the extent of Herring then why not put him in against a wrestler?
Either way it's a bad move for them to get rid of Herring, he's still better than all fo the up and comers other than Vera but even then that fight can go either way.
This matchup is definitely one that was put together for Minotauro since he is familiar with Herring but it still a risky move by ZUFFA because Herring has KO power and the UFC ref's stop fights much earlier than PRIDE ref's and though Nog can take a beating like none other, there is still that chance Herring lands something that drops Nog and then Herring pounces on him for a stoppage.
I expect nothingless than them to clash in a war, should be a great fight and neither of those guys run from their opponents... Like Sylvia and the newly reborn AA.
