There is no doubt in my mind that Renzo was faking! Give me a break, it was so obvious, which is why the question is being asked by the whole MMA world. I have(had) all the respect in the world for Renzo. I was as impressed with his toughness as anyone when he didn't tap dispite a broken arm, but that was then, and this is now. I don't understand his motivation for wanting to quit, but he definitely did want to quit. As soon as the ref stopped the action, he started to grab his face like that's where he took the knee. Sorry bud, but the knee hit the back of your neck, not your face! And then he wanted to quit immediately without even taking his 5 minutes to recover from his alleged injury. These MMA refs have refereed so many fights that they have a pretty good idea about when a fighter is seriously hurt, and the ref in this fight totally expected Renzo to be able to continue. He has the best seat in the house, which is why he basically made Renzo wait at least the 5 minutes before quiting, even though Renzo wanted to quit immediately. I've seen many fighters get knocked out cold and then regain conciousness when they hit the mat...and every one of them wants to continue fighting. When the ref stops the fight, they are devestated that the ref didn't allow them to continue. And out of every fighter i've ever seen get knocked out cold, i've also seen every one of them walking around under their own power within 2-3 minutes. This guy never even lost conciousness, and was still acting like he couldn't stand up on his own even 4-5 minutes later! Were you guys looking at the same knee strikes that i saw? They weren't the kind of strikes that would knock someone out. It would be one thing if he started grabbing the back of his neck and was complaining of a neck injury, but that simply wasn't the case. Like i said, i had all the respect in the world for Renzo, but not any more. If he was any other fighter, everyone would be saying the same thing. But people want to give him a pass just because he's a Gracie. Sorry, but that shouldn't factor into it at all. I think most people had great respect for Roberto Duran and thought of him as a tough guy...but dispite his reputation for being a tough guy in Boxing, he still said "No Mas" and quit in his fight against Sugar Ray Leonard. It was totally out of character, and still to this day nobody understands why he quit, but the fact remains that he did quit. The same is true when i think about Renzo...I don't understand why he quit, and i'll admit that it is out of his character to quit, but none of that changes the fact that he did obviously want to quit...and so he did!
